Meet the Team
Matthew Taylor FCCA - Partner
Following his training in two small practices based in Manchester, Matthew joined the firm in 1990 after a short twelve month spell working in the industrial washing machine industry.
During his time with firm he completed his qualification and was made partner in 1997. Throughout this time he has worked with clients operating in many sectors from sole traders to businesses with multi million pound turnovers. Gaining vast experience over the years he is able to advise clients on a wide range of issues.
Away from work Matthew is a long standing season ticket holder at Oldham Athletic, plays regular five a side and enjoys the outdoors.
Brendan Fitzpatrick BA(Hons) FCCA - Partner
Brendan joined the firm in 1998 after completing his Accounting and Finance Degree at Lancaster University. Initially joining as a trainee accountant he qualified in 2001 and became a partner in the firm in 2007.
He has considerable experience of working with and advising businesses of varying sizes across a wide range of activities and industries, including a number of client business disposals to achieve maximum value.
Being a father of three children leaves little spare time, however Brendan is a keen rugby player still regularly donning his boots in masters and touch rugby. He also enjoys watching American Football attending the NFL games at Wembley whenever time permits.
Sue Coppack - Payroll Manager
Sue joined the firm in 1987 in an administrative role and has progressed through the firm over the years to her current position as Payroll Manager. With her team she liaises with clients to ensure that all aspects of their payroll obligations are fully met.
During her time with the firm she has also worked within bookkeeping and accounts departments which, combined with the many years at the firm, give her a unique insight into the firm’s clients.
Sue’s interests away from work include tennis and motorsports including supporting her son in his speedway pursuits.
Katie Allen - Xero Advisor Certified
Katie has worked for James Scott since November 2015, and before deciding to become an accountant Katie had been working in industry. She often finds this experience invaluable when working with clients as she understands the stresses of working in industry.
Since joining James Scott Katie has worked in both the accounts and bookkeeping sides of the business, However, recently she has been promoted to the new role as she heads up the bookkeeping and VAT Departments. This involves regular contact with the clients which is an aspect of the business that Katie particularly likes.
In her free time Katie enjoys playing Netball and Rounders and is a member of the Milnrow Cricket Club rounders team!
Agata Janiak - Xero Advisor and Migration Certified
Agata joined the business in October 2016 and is currently working towards completing her AAT (Association of Accounting Technicians) certification. Agata has experience of working with a number of cloud accounting packages and her favourites by far Xero, she is both a Xero Certified and Xero Migration Advisor. Agata will work with you to get the best from your accounting software so that it delivers the information and results you want.
In her time away from the office, she enjoys spending time with family, socialising with friends and spoiling her cat! She is also a Kayaking Champion and has recently invested in anew Kayak to reignite her love of the sport.
Leah McCarthy - Trainee Accountant
Leah joined the team at the beginning of October 2018 as a Trainee Accountant. Leah will be working in an accounts role utilising all of the latest online cloud accounting technologies in the process.
Leah has previously been working for another accountancy firm for three years, so she joins James Scott Accountants with lots of experience. She is eager to learn more and become qualified. She is currently studying for her AAT Level 4 and is due to take her final exam in November 2018. Having passed this Leah plans to progress onto ACCA early next year. She is also currently working towards her Xero certification.
In her free time Leah likes to socialise and meet up with her friends.
Gabi Fleet - Payroll Assistant
After a short period working part time, Gabi joined James Scott Accountant on a full-time basis in September 2018 to assist in the payroll department.
Gabi has five years’ experience in payroll, so she was able to hit the ground running and immediately help by liaising with clients and assisting in the payroll process.
When Gabi has free time, she is an avid gamer (her current favourite is World of Warcraft) and she also likes to pursue her interest in photography.
Matthew Atherton - Accounts Assistant
Matthew joined James Scott Accountants in September 2018 as an Account’s Assistant on a one-year placement from Chester University where he is studying for an Accountancy and Finance Degree.
As well as being able to contribute to the team at James Scott Accountants, Matthew is really finding the practical work experience and exposure to the latest online cloud accounting technology invaluable to his long-term career.
After a busy week Matthew likes to relax by playing Golf or watching his favoured football team Manchester United. He also enjoys watching cricket and returning to his student haunts in Chester.
Tom Colley - Accounts Apprentice
Tom joined James Scott Accountants in August 2018 having previously completed a work experience placement with them when he was studying at college for his “A” Levels in I.T. Economics and Science.
Tom enjoyed his time so much during his placement that he decided to pursue a career in Accountancy and has taken up a position with James Scott on an Apprentice Scheme.
When Tom isn't working, he enjoys really getting to grips with technology by building his own computers!
Olivia Nield – Practice Administrator
Olivia had previously worked for the last three and a half years as a receptionist at the at the The Old Bell Inn in Delph Saddleworth. She felt like it was time for a change and was looking for a completely new challenge in a different type of role.
As Practice Administrator, Olivia has found just that! Liv manages the general administration of the firm and liaises with clients and colleagues and generally assists in the smooth running of the firm. On top of all that, she also manages the firms Social Media communications and gets involved in the firms marketing activities.
Outside work, Liv enjoys walking her two dogs (Bella & Stella) and she has her own horse to look after, so she is kept pretty busy!
